Overview

Physiotherapists are professionals trained to help people impacted by injury or disability with manual therapy, exercises, and advice. They help people of all ages with pain management and limbs movement.

Physiotherapy, a portmanteau of physical therapy, dates back to Hippocrates era of ancient Greece. Initially used by the military back in the days to help soldiers, the therapy has now become commonplace in medical science for relieving pain.

Physiotherapy is divided into a bachelor’s programme Bachelor of Physiotherapy and several Masters programmes. While the bachelor’s programme is for 4.5 years and the master’s programme is for 2 years. Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT)

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) is a 4.5-year graduate programme divided into nine semesters. This includes the four-years of classroom studies and six months of internship. To be eligible for the BPT programme, one must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English at the pre-university/10+2 or equivalent level. All admissions to physiotherapy colleges in Bangalore affiliated to RGUHS are through Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).

Master of Physiotherapy (MPT)

If you are keen on getting a specialisation in physiotherapy, then you can choose one from the nine available options. To do a masters in physiotherapy, you have to be a BPT graduate. All admissions are based on entrance tests conducted by the state government or the affiliating university. Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English from a recognised board with a minimum 45% marks. Candidate Shouldhave passed subjects of English,Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually also.
Master of Physiotherapy in Musculoskeletal/Orthopaedics Physiotherapy Candidates Should have passed B.Sc. (PT) or BPT degree from a recognised board with not less than 50% of marks in aggregate and have completed 6 months of compulsory rotating internship in Physiotherapy.
Master of Physiotherapy in Neurological Physiotherapy Candidates Should have passed B.Sc. (PT) or BPT degree from a recognised board with not less than 50% of marks in aggregate and have completed 6 months of compulsory rotating internship in Physiotherapy.
Master of Physiotherapy in Cardiothoracic Physiotherapy Candidates Should have passed B.Sc. (PT) or BPT degree from a recognised board with not less than 50% of marks in aggregate and have completed 6 months of compulsory rotating internship in Physiotherapy.
Master of Physiotherapy in Community Based Rehabilitation Candidates Should have passed B.Sc. (PT) or BPT degree from a recognised board with not less than 50% of marks in aggregate and have completed 6 months of compulsory rotating internship in Physiotherapy.
Master of Physiotherapy Obstetrics & Gynaecology Candidates Should have passed B.Sc. (PT) or BPT degree from a recognised board with not less than 50% of marks in aggregate and have completed 6 months of compulsory rotating internship in Physiotherapy.

UG Courses:
B.Pharma

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) is the basic degree in pharmaceutical sciences. The course duration is four years for regular students and three years for lateral students. To be eligible for B.Pharm admission, one must have passed 12th standard or equivalent in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. Students must have completed 17 years on or before December 31 of the year of admission. After completing your 12th standard, you’ll have to attempt the Karnataka Common Entrance Test conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) for admissions to pharmaceutical colleges in Bangalore or by respective universities for admission to their pharma programme.
