What is MICAT?

MICA Admission Test or MICAT exam is a postgraduate entrance exam conducted by the Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad to select students for its PGDM courses. MICA is one of the top institutes in India, providing postgraduate programs in the field of Marketing and Communications.

Following are the courses offered at MICAT:

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM)
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Management in Communications (PGDM- C)

MICA Entrance Test is conducted in 2 phases. The 1st phase will be conducted on December 3, 2022 and the 2nd one will be conducted on January 28, 2023.

To apply for the exam, candidates have to complete their graduation in a relevant field from a recognized university. They should have scored a minimum of 50% in their graduation.

MICAT Syllabus and Books:
Section 1: Psychometric Test

Psychometric tests are given priority during the shortlisting procedure. Therefore, it must not be taken lightly during the preparation process of the MICAT syllabus.

Following are the salient features of the Psychometric Test:

  • It tests the candidate's personality and thought processes.
  • The candidates must clear this section to be evaluated for the next sections.
  • It consists of three sets of questions.
Section 2: Descriptive Test

Candidates must be creative to ace this section. The salient features of the Descriptive Test section are as follows:

Candidates have to meet the following eligibility criteria for the exam:

  • Candidates must have completed their graduation in a valid stream from a recognized university.
  • They should also answer any one of the following entrance examinations:
  • CAT
  • XAT
  • GMAT (2019 Onwards)
MICAT Registration:

Candidates can register for MICAT by following steps:

Step 1: Visit the official website of MICA.

Step 2: Click on the link for New Registration.

Step 3: Fill in the required personal details and the captcha code.

Step 4: Tick on the "I Agree" checkbox and click on the submit button.

Step 5: Confirmation page with the candidate's User ID and Password will be displayed. The details shall also be mailed to them.

How to fill the MICAT Application Form?

Step 1: Visit the official website of MICA

Step 2: Login to your account using the User ID and Password

Step 3: Fill in the required Personal Details, Communication Details, Educational and Professional Details, and required entrance exam scores.

Step 4: Candidates have to upload scanned copies of photographs and signature, which should be according to the required specifications.

Step 5: Candidates have to pay the application fee and submit the MICAT application form.

The application fee for MICA Entrance Exam is Rs. 1,985.

Candidates can follow the below-mentioned preparation tips for the MICA entrance exam:

MICAT Cut offs:

MICAT cut off decides whether a candidate will be invited for the further admission process or not. Firstly, candidates have to clear the psychometric test after which their remaining sections will get evaluated.

Following are the expected MICAT cut off for Section 3:

Verbal Ability (VA) 8 to 10 marks
Quantitative Ability (QA) 6.5 to 7.5 marks
General Awareness (GA) 5.5 to 6.5 marks
Divergent and Convergent Reasoning (DCR) 8.5 to 12 marks

Further Admission Process:

Qualifying for the MICAT exam alone is not enough for the candidates to get admission for the PGDM-C course at MICA. The admission procedure at MICA involves an elaborate selection process. Candidates must go through the entire process to be considered for admission.

The selection process of MICAT involves three steps:

  • Step 1: CAT/ XAT/ GMAT
  • Step 2: MICA Admission Test (MICAT)
  • Step 3: Group Exercise (GE) & Personal Interview (PI)
Shortlisting Procedure for Group Exercise (GE) & Personal Interview (PI):

After the completion of the MICA Admission Test, the authorities will begin their shortlisting process.

The candidates will be shortlisted for Group Exercise (GE) & Personal Interview (PI) based on the following shortlisting procedure:

  • The candidates must have qualified for the Psychometric Test.
  • If the candidates have qualified for the Psychometric Test, then their CAT/ XAT/ GMAT scores will be taken into consideration.
  • If the candidates have qualified in the CAT/ XAT/ GMAT, then their performance in Section B will be assessed.
  • If the candidates get a normalized minimum cut-off score in Section B, their performance in Section C will be assessed.
  • The candidates must have cleared the minimum cut-off score in Section C to be eligible for the GE-PI round.
  • The selecting authorities finalize the candidates based on the following weightage:

- CAT/XAT/GMAT- 50%

- MICAT- 50%

  • The shortlisted candidates will be called for GE-PI rounds at any of the following cities:

- Ahmedabad

- Bengaluru

- Delhi

- Kolkata

- Mumbai

GE-PI rounds test the following attributes of the candidate:

Important points to note about the GE-PI round:

  • Candidates are called to the GE-PI round through a call letter
  • The round is conducted in two phases.
  • The centres for the first phase are Ahemdabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai.
  • The second phase of the GE-PI round is held in Ahmedabad.
  • The final merit list is released based on the results of the GE-PI rounds.
Calculation of the Composite Score:

The candidate's composite score is calculated after all the rounds of the selection process are completed.

The composite score includes the combined weightage of the MICAT, GE, and PI. The weightage of each round is as follows:

  • MICA Entrance Test- 50%
  • Group Exercise (GE)- 20%
  • Personal Interview- 30%

The candidates who qualify in all 3 rounds and meet the eligibility criteria will get confirmed offers.

The conditions that must be met by the candidates for receiving the confirmed offers are as follows:

  • Recommendation from three members of the panel of the PI round.
  • Scoring 4 or above out of 5 points in GE.
  • Scoring 4 or above out of 5 points in PI.
  • The candidate must be a part of the top 10% in terms of MICAT scores.
  • The candidate must be a part of the top 10% in terms of CAT/ XAT/ GMAT scores.
The weightage for creating the final merit list of the exam is as follows:
  • CAT/XAT/GMAT- 20%
  • MICAT- 30%
  • GE- 20%
  • PI- 30%
