The course is designed to impart theoretical knowledge on basic sciences relevant to Anaesthesia, including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pathology, Statistics and Physics. The students learn anaesthetic management of surgical ailments. They acquire a fundamental knowledge of Aetiology, Pathophysiology and Surgical Treatment of Conditions, Mechanism of Pain Perception and Management of Poly-trauma and Science of Resuscitation. They practise Regional Anaesthesia, Thoracic Anaesthesia, Cardiovascular Anaesthesia, Neuroanaesthesia, Transplant Anaesthesia, and Paediatric Anaesthesia during the course time. They are also taught about the administration of an operating theatre, the medico-legal aspects of anaesthesia, auditing, publishing and presenting research work at numerous scientific forums.

The candidates should have completed MBBS or done their Postgraduate Diploma from any recognized medical college or university and passed the qualifying examination with 55% or above aggregate marks. They should have appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate Examination (NEET PG) and obtained the minimum cut-off percentile to specialize in Anaesthesia.
