The Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU) was established under the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries University Act in 2004. It was established exclusively for the development of education, learning, and research. It provides various Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programs for eligible candidates.

Karnataka Veterinary University also offers Ph.D. programs with multiple specializations. The university was established after realizing the loss of two decades of prime development in agriculture, animal husbandry, dairy, fisheries, etc. KVAFSU, being an autonomous academic institute, is governed by the Board of Management that regulates the university policies following the provision of acts and statutes.

KVAFSU, Bidar, ensures to extend its service to the farmers of the country in the form of saving animal lives. It strives to provide leadership in teaching and research education services related to veterinary, animal sciences, dairy sciences, fisheries, etc.

The KVAFSU library plays a vital role in the collection and development of veterinary science-related information. It is processed in the form of books, e-books, and journals. It has been computerized by using E-Library software and offers OPAC facilities. It was established in 1984. It aims to support the educational and research programs of the university by providing access to information consistent with the present.

Laboratory:

Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University has laboratories for conducting all the research related to the studies. It is equipped well with all the equipment and resources necessary for conducting the research.

Candidates applying for the program must have completed a 10+2/ II PUC or equivalent exam from a recognized institute or board. They must have obtained at least 50% aggregate marks with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.

Veterinary Science:
Bachelor of Veterinary Science (B.V.Sc) and Animal Husbandry (AH):

Eligibility:

Candidates must have completed 10+2/ II PUC or equivalent from a recognized institute or board. They must have obtained at least 50% (40% for reserved category candidates) aggregate marks in the qualifying exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as mandatory subjects. Applicants must have appeared and qualified in the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET). They must have completed 17 years of age as of 31st December on the year of admission at Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University.

KVAFSU Admissions:

Following are the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University admission procedures:

  • KVAFSU admission happens as per the regulations issued by the Board of Management.
  • The admission procedure begins with the application process.
  • Candidates can apply both in online and offline mode.
  • Applicants must fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned by the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University.
  • Candidates applying for UG programs must appear and qualify for the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET).
  • Postgraduate program applicants must appear and qualify for the University entrance exam backed by the counseling process.
  • Applicants who have passed in ICAR/ JRF examinations can also apply.
  • PhD applicants must have appeared and qualified for an Entrance exam conducted by the university followed by the counseling procedure.
  • Applicants with qualified marks in ICAR/ CSIR-SRF/ NET are also eligible for the PhD program at Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University.
Karnataka Veterinary University Scholarships:

Following are the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University scholarships offered for the candidates based on their academic performances:

The University Resident Merit Scholarship (URMS):

URMS scholarships are awarded for all the PG 1st year eligible candidates for each subject under the Master and Doctoral programs. This scholarship may not be applicable if the candidate receives other scholarships or fellowships. Candidates are selected based on their OGPA marks or percentage obtained in the qualifying exam. The scholarship will continue based on the CGPA marks secured by the candidates in the 1st year final exam.

Student Aid Fund:

Student aid funds offer financial assistance for the candidates who are in need. This scholarship is provided for the candidate in the form of Tuition, Hostel, Exam fees, providing Clothing, covering Medical Expenses, etc. The annual income of the candidate's parents or guardians is subject to be notified by the Government of Karnataka. This aid depends on the OGPA secured by them in the qualifying exam.

Candidates whose CGPA is less than 7.00 are not eligible to apply. All the student aids necessary for the students shall be given on request.

SC/ ST Scholarships or Fellowship:
  • These scholarships are provided only for the SC/ ST candidates.
  • This fellowship shall be applicable - 2 years for Master’s degree candidates and 3-years for Doctoral candidates.
  • The subsequent years of the award shall be renewed by the Dean of the college every year.
  • The fellowship may be terminated if the candidate’s code of conduct is unsatisfactory.
Graduate Assistantship:
  • This scholarship is offered for all the PG candidates at Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University.
  • A maximum of 2 graduate assistants will be appointed under each department.
  • SC/ ST candidates are provided with reservation facilities.
  • Applicants will be called for the Graduate Assistantship every year.
  • The duration of the assistantship is one academic year.
  • Candidates shall be selected based on marks obtained by the candidates in the qualifying exam.
  • The Graduate Assistantship shall be withdrawn if the candidates fail to maintain the 7.0 CGPA at the end of the semester.
